With the glorious summer we’ve just had, the majority of us are probably not wanting to think about the fast approaching autumn. However as September is here, and the nights begin to draw in, we begin to look to our homes as inspiration for comfort and warmth. With its bright myriad of colours and ever changing features, it is easy to draw creativity, and the autumn design trends of 2025 reflect this perfectly.
Autumn Colours
It may seem obvious, but colour really does play a big part in autumn interior design; think about deep reds, burnt oranges, mustard yellows, and earthy browns for 2025. We consider brown a great shade as it complements a myriad of room styles and accessories so effortlessly – Mocha Mousse has been chosen as Pantone’s Colour of the Year! Nature’s colour pallet exists for a reason, so why not use it in the home too? Use darker colours to create the sense of depth, cosiness and extra space, whilst other playful shades such as reds and oranges and terracotta’s will bring a sense of warmth and vibrancy.
Texture and materials
Tactile natural materials such as wicker are a must for the Autumn season, and will deliver some much needed organic charm to the home, creating an unbeatable autumnal vibe. Think about having wicker bar stools in your kitchen, or why not use a wicker storage chest or bench in your hallway or bedroom? As well as being timeless, wicker is excellent for that authentic natural look, with its pleasing aesthetics, texture and durability. Also very versatile, it suits almost any aesthetic and style; where would you add yours?
Textured materials are a popular choice this season too: with its earthy tones, natural wood is a lovely aesthetic for these chillier months in the home as the organic patterns and brown/honey shades bring an element of warmth to any room. Wooden coffee tables make excellent centrepieces, and can be decorated with natural autumn materials such as dried leaves, driftwood and plants. Add a mirror to your space too; reflect the natural light in the room, creating an airy and calming feeling throughout.
Nothing says comfort like feeling your bare feet on a warm rug or cotton runner, whilst cushions and pouffes add that extra level of comfort when sitting and relaxing. Wool and knitted patterns are also an excellent choice; with patterned designs firmly back in favour this year they feature prominently in upholstery and wallpaper, and help to break up the space for eye-catching results.
A cosy autumn setting
Popular autumn design trends for 2025 involve creating a comfy nook or cosy reading area that creates a much desired calming and relaxing personal space where we can unwind. Perfect for escaping after a long day; why not take the opportunity to build your perfect spot whilst relaxing and unwinding this Autumn and Winter? A bookshelf or mini library works wonders in a living room or hallway, and can be contoured to fit around doors, windows and staircases. From using wood panelling, to adding soft fabrics, colourful wall papers and warming candlelight; there are many ways to create the perfect escape this autumn with a cosy corner, as you sit curled up with a comfy book from your very own library. Your new cosy haven is a lovely way to display your favourite books and artworks; all in all, the perfect personal nook!
Warmth in the home
Another area not to overlook when thinking about autumn design trends this season is lighting. The need to create a warm and inviting home during the autumn can be likened to building a warm nest for the winter, and lighting is essential in achieving this goal. Create cosy vibes by using candle lanterns and candlesticks to bathe your home in a warming glow. Wooden candle lanterns add a soft glow to your space without detracting from the natural, organic feel, with their textured frames and classic look. Wooden candle sticks are also a great addition to any table spread or mantlepiece, and along with votives can be either used with candles, or an array of autumnal décor to create the perfect seasonal display.
Speaking of table settings; wooden serve ware and tableware are all the rage once again this autumn, and it’s easy to see why. There’s nothing like a sleek wooden chopping board or serving tray to present your dishes on, and to break up the wooden aesthetic, why not use marble and slate too? Adding extra texture and a sense of elegance, the timeless appearance of a marble and slate chopping board is sure to add an extra sense of style to your next soiree.
Create your own little nest as you embrace the cosiest time of the year!
