Garden Seating Ideas – Making the most of a small garden

If you’re anything like us then you love to spend time outside on those warm summer days, whether it’s socialising with friends or quietly relaxing with a good book.

Research suggests that the colours blue and green are great for mental health, so there really is no better stress relief than using our gardens and outdoor spaces to relax and unwind after a long day, or on a weekend.

Creating a snug yet satisfying garden space can be easily achieved whether you have a small garden patio or a larger outdoor space to work with. Suitable and comfortable garden furniture is often the centre of this; whether it’s a cosy wooden armchair that you can recline and enjoy a glass of wine, a garden bench for your favourite corner of the patio, or a large dining table for alfresco dining and socialising with friends. There are many ways that different outdoor furniture can be used to your advantage, no matter what the size of your outdoor living space.

Today we discuss ways to make use of smaller outdoor areas to create an ideal seating area.

How do you create a seating area in a small garden?

Small gardens can be so cosy and inviting; all you need is to be clever with your space and think carefully about what you will use it for.

Consider making your outdoor space an area that meets your daily needs; would you like a nice area for friends to sit and socialise, to eat dinner and most importantly for you to relax? Some people even like to do office work outdoors, so in this case something comfortable and possibly under cover would be a good option.

Garden benches are perfect for narrow spaces, although can be often overlooked; a great place to enjoy your morning cup of tea, alfresco breakfast and chats with friends. Our selection of garden benches are all handmade with solid wood. Our favourite Za Za bench for space saving is the wooden folding bench which is handmade in teak wood and small in size, you can simply fold away when not being used.

Compact dining has become very important for small areas, consider dining tables that can be extended and then reduced in size when required. Or rather than a dining table, coffee tables can be a great space saving idea for casual dining. We have designed our NEW garden dining set with wooden benches, which can be placed right underneath the table when not being used; always a clever way to save some space. Choose from the four or six seater outdoor dining set.

Outdoor chairs are often a necessity for any garden space and make handy extra seating for alfresco entertaining and outdoor dinner parties. If you fancy something to lounge in yet can also be pulled up to a table, our bamboo and string chairs are perfect for this. All in stylish yet practical designs. It can also be a good idea to choose something which can also go inside the conservatory or hallway, making it a practical all year round seating option. Our teak and rattan lounger chairs are both comfortable and relaxing seating for both indoors and outside the home.

It is now popular to build alfresco seating areas around a source of lighting or heat and really sets the scene once the sun goes down. If space is limited, adding a small fire pit can be the perfect way to do this.

If you’re watching the pennies, and looking for garden seating ideas on a budget, another idea is to also try building your own outdoor furniture, if you fancy the challenge! The trend of self building pallet gardens to create pallet benches and sofas is still a favourite.
