June is here and with it the warm summer sun, which hopefully will last for the majority of the summer, we get to enjoy warm days out and spending time outside. However we shouldn’t neglect our interior spaces during this pleasant time; not only is it a great time to relax, but also decorate the home and make it feel fresh and inviting. Today we thought we’d share our favourite tips to help you get started, and find the perfect inspiration for your favourite interior summer décor, and encourage a little bit of summer into your home.
1. Bringing nature inside
Many of us enjoy gardening and spending time outdoors, but why confine ourselves to the outdoors when you can bring the warmth and beauty of nature into our homes? Use small pots or vases to display cut flowers with ease, or invest in some beautiful house plants to add a splash of colour to your room, in a planter or pot cover. I for one can never resist buying at least one when I go to a garden centre…
When sourcing your containers, use summer colours such as copper to help create warmth, or go with a natural bamboo design to help keep with the in style natural and ecological theme. Not only will the air in your home feel fresher and cleaner with the added oxygen, but plants and flowers have been scientifically proven to help calm the mind and create a safe space that will be an excellent boost to your mental health. Dried flowers are also a great option, and require little to no maintenance whilst adding a beautiful splash of summer colour.
2. Rattan furniture is great for indoors!
Furniture is of course important within any home, and can provide all our needs from creating a socialising space for relaxing with friends, or simply a place to relax and unwind after a long day. Why not add an exotic feeling to your home this summer by investing in some rattan wicker furniture, with it’s natural, textured finish, that creates a beautiful, warm rustic style by combining the browns of the wicker with the green of your indoor plants, helping to bring a sense of nature into your home.
Indoor rattan furniture such as wicker chairs and tub chairs are a great addition to any outdoor wicker furniture in the garden, and have the advantage of being able to be taken outside on a warm sunny day. Complement any room of the home from conservatories, to bedrooms to even hallways, and add a touch of wicker this summer for the perfect natural touch.
3. Summer Serveware
Whether dining outdoors alfresco style, or eating within the comfort of your own home, serveware and tableware should never be overlooked. Rustic pieces such wooden chopping boards and serving platters help connect both the indoors and outdoors, and make fabulous display pieces that are sure to give your kitchen that summery feeling. Use them as part of the dining table spread when hosting your next summer dinner party or relaxing barbecue, or why not display them on a sideboard or table, for the perfect countryside display. The light colours and textures in the wood will also help to make the room feel brighter and more welcoming.
4. How to add brightness to the home
A light airy room can really make you feel summery, but if you live in an old house with small windows it can be easy to feel dark and gloomy on even the brightest day. A great way to help combat this is to use a large mirror to help bounce light around the room as it reflects it from the window.
Going bold and applying bright, summery colours on your walls will also do wonders; sunshine shades and yellows will instantly warm up your space and create a more inviting and loving space for relaxation. Remember that paint isn’t the only option for adding colour to walls, why not try Moroccan inspired tiles? Similarly light wooden furniture such as clothes rails help reflect the light in your room for the perfect warm summer ambience.
5. Finish off with a rug.
Add a new personality to your room with a stylish rug! Whether you’re looking at vibrant colours that add a WOW factor, muted tones that add a hint of warmth or stylish patterns that help the space flow, rugs are a very way to add extra life into a room without being overcrowding or overpowering. Experiment with different colours and designs that compliment your aesthetics and colour pallet, and add some compact personality that can be a talking point for your guests.
